2024-25 Season Opener Goes Titans Way

Titans opened their 56th season with a victory over CAJ, 37-18 in their first Kanto league dual meet. Though it was worrying that their 2-time defending Far East champion, Hugo M. at 114lb was out due to illness, the rest of the fellow Titans fought hard to make up for the loss. Ryan M. 121lb, Jed. S. 133lb, and Max L. 139lb faced more experienced opponents and despite their efforts, fell short. “Their opponents are good, but the biggest difference was in confidence; they [Ryan, Jed] just need to believe in themselves and take the first shot and they will be surprised how much better and closer they can wrestle these guys,” commented Coach Yabui, commending on their efforts to wrestle till the very end. Luke S. 127lb was the only wrestler to secure a victory in the first half of the dual.

Though the Titans were behind until 145lb of the dual, from 145lb, it was all St. Mary’s. Ken. W 145lb, Nathaniel T. (2-time defending Far East champion and captain) 152lb, Kabilan B. 160lb, Luke Y. 172lb, Roman L. 189lb (2-time defending Far East champion), and Jimin K. 215lb, all came back with a technical superiority or fall to close the deal. “We’ve always been strong at the lower weights, but that may be different this season,” said Coach Yabui looking back at the performance of their mid to heavier weight classes. Coach Moshe complimented the way Kent and Kabilan had tough opponents but were able to come through in the end.
